When self-esteem approaches zero

“Your credentials need to be re-assessed”, “you need lessons to improve on English language”, “you need American or Canadian experience” and the list goes on. If you are a newcomer or you were one at some point I’m sure you can totally relate to all or at least one of these statements. Immigration Services, Employment Services, Government officials and the media keep repeating these words and you hear them everywhere you go.

While sometimes these statements could be true of an individual, hearing them over and over again could have a long lasting negative impact on an individual’s self-esteem. Such individuals may begin to second guess themselves or doubt their abilities. A once extroverted person may become introverted or more reserved, become less engaged or shy and etc., simply because their self-esteem has been depleted over time. When the individual’s confidence level begins to decline it becomes even more difficult to sell themselves on a job interview. Recruiters marvel such individuals’ profiles, but are not convinced upon meeting with them. Simply put – you cannot give what you don’t have. If you don’t sound convinced you cannot convince someone else.

According to Stuart Anderson, Director of National Foundation for American Policy in his article dated August 20:

42% of America’s top cancer researchers are immigrants

70% or more Of Grad students in key Tech fields Are International Students

More than half of America’s billion dollar startups had an Immigrant founder
